We take contra-indications very seriously. Read more to see if it’s safe for you to participate at this time.

What to be aware of.

Although psilocybin is considered safe, especially with the proper set and setting, still the various risks and contraindications need to be observed.

You must be in good heart health to participate. Although psilocybin has a very low toxicity various studies have shown a temporary effect on both the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

The raise in blood pressure and heart rate will peak after about a half an hour, remain there for another two hours and then slowly return to normal.

Those suffering from mental health disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder I & II, PTSD and clinical depression are not able to participate. In some cases psychedelics can cause adverse reactions for people struggling with these disorders.

Individuals who are currently using anti-depressants are advised against using psychedelics. Medications such as SSRI’s, MAOI, Lithium and other tricyclic anti-depressants interfere with the effects of psilocybin.

In some cases increasing or decreasing the effects, and often can be dangerous in combination with psychedelics. Although serotonin syndrome is fortunately rare, it is still a life threatening condition that can occur when combining psychedelics and anti-depressants.

Any individual under the age of 25 cannot participate. As the brain is still growing into adulthood many important contra-indications and disorders have yet to present themselves. While the brain is still developing is it not advisable to receive a high dose of psilocybin.

Even if you are in the right time and good health to participate there are still effects to be aware of. As a result of a psychedelic experience you may encounter one or several of the following:

Nausea

Vomiting, most often shortly after ingestion.

Drowsiness

Feeling tired and lethargic.

Dilated pupils

Dilation in the eyes is a physical side effect.

Blurred vision

Temporary vision disruptions are a less common side effect.

Fear

Feelings of panic or fear can be confronting during a session.

Paranoia

Being overwhelmed and taken by a negative spiral.

Dysphoria

A profound sense of unease and general discomfort.

Panic

Uncontrolled anxiety in the form of erratic behavior.

Taking care.

Even in unsupervised and unrestricted circumstances, these side effects are rare and temporary. In the proper set and setting these risks are reduced even further. Still its important to be aware of what can occur.

Our main facilitator has undergone a year of medical training in the Netherlands. As such she is certified in CPR, first-aid and emergency protocols. In the case of any adverse reaction you will be in a safe space and carefully monitored.

Its important to note that these facilitated psilocybin sessions are not intended as a substitute for medical or psychological care. They are meant for personal exploration, spiritual or mystical experiences, a deeper understanding of the psyche and connection with nature.
