Study and practice into the mind-body connection is not new at all. Until recently almost every system of medicine spanning the globe has treated the mind and body together as one. It began to change when the western world developed an idea of the body as a set of replaceable parts, separate from the mind.
Many advantages were born from this western perspective. Allopathic medicine has saved many lives through surgery and pharmacology. However, until recently there was less research and emphasis on the part our mind plays into our health and well-being.
In the last century scientists have proven the deep and complex relationship between the mind and body.
“extensive research has confirmed the medical and mental benefits of meditation, mindfulness training, yoga, and other mind-body practices.”
Integrative psychiatrist James Lake, MD, of Stanford University
Developing and supporting the mind-body connection has benefits for our physical health and our mental well-being. Mindfulness practices have been shown to lower blood pressure, improve digestion, reduce pain and improve immune responses.
In short this means that our thoughts and feelings can effect our physiology. The same is true in reverse. What we do with our bodies effects our mind. How we eat, sleep and exercise, even posture have clear influence on our mental state.
“the brain and peripheral nervous system, the endocrine and immune systems, and indeed, all the organs of our body and all the emotional responses we have, share a common chemical language and are constantly communicating with one another.”
Dr. James Gordon (founder of the Center for Mind-Body Medicine)
Here researchers refer to the mind as our set of perceptions, feelings, thoughts and beliefs. The brain is seen more as the processor for our mind to experience the world and access our mental states.
These states of being can be conscious or unconscious. Often mindfulness techniques are aimed at improving our awareness of both the thoughts and feelings coming from our mind, as well as the perceptions and sensations from our bodies.
For thousands of years people have used various physical techniques in order to deepen the mind-body connection. Practices such as yoga, t’ai chi, various forms of breathing, chanting and dance to name a few.
Recent innovations in mental health care have also begun to introduce physical techniques in their practices. For example; EMDR, breath work and cold water swimming. The results are very encouraging.
We all have emotional blockages of different degrees. Our bodies have physical reactions to stress that are deeply embedded within our evolution as a species. These physiological reactions to stress can be measured in a number of ways. To name a few; blood pressure, pupil dilation, sweat, as well as activation of specific hormones and neuroreceptors.
At Lucid movement we have a passion for kinetic energy. We see the body as a bridge to a heightened sense of well-being. As such, we have found great results by incorporating physical practices into our truffle sessions. A unique set of protocols, designed to help you reach deeper levels of connection.
Together in an extensive interview prior to the session, we develop a unique package of techniques. Depending on your personal situation, a combination of the following practices may be used to help reach deeper levels of introspection on your psychedelic journey:
The influence we have through our breath is a powerful tool.
Touch can be a bridge to connection and relaxation.
Including but not limited to dance, yoga and active stretching.
Methods such as gazing, body-scan and loving kindness.
Tailored soundscapes, visuals, scents and even taste.
EFT is an evidence-based practice for anxiety, depression and more.
These images can be a helpful tool in directing intention.
Making music is a consistent element in traditional sessions.
We have an emphasis on personalized experiences. Curated together with you. In order to help you get the most out of your psychedelic exploration. There is however a common framework used in ancient rituals and modern guided sessions alike. We work with these structures for a portion of the session as well.
Music in a relaxed position is the most common procedure being used in psychedelic sessions today. Rhythmic music is also a common element of facilitated psychedelic journeys in traditional societies. Music is a deeply personal experience, even from day to day. We spend extra time curating the best soundscape for your unique adventure within.
Towards the end of the session we often engage in gazing meditation. Utilizing natural items like flowers, plants and flame but in some cases participants bring their own objects like photographs or mementos. This is an ancient technique that has been used in combination with psychedelic journeys since antiquity.
We are committed to the knowledge curated from past cultures who are the pioneers of these assisted journeys. Just as much, we follow the most cutting edge, scientifically proven methods. The combination of ancient wisdom and evidence-based protocols sets us apart.
