There are more than 200 varieties of truffles and mushrooms containing psilocybin or its derivative psilocin. These psychoactive substances are found all around the world and have been utilized for thousands of years.
Truffles are a different part of the mushroom which remain dormant underground supporting the ‘fruiting’ mushrooms at the surface.
When psilocybin enters the body it is metabolized into psilocin, this is where the psychedelic effects come from. Psilocin allows for more serotonin uptake in the receptors of the brain, resulting in the transformative perspective and visions that are associated with psychedelics.
In the Netherlands it is legal to consume and purchase so called ‘magic-truffles’. Psychedelic sessions utilizing truffles like this one are also legal. On the other hand ‘magic-mushrooms’ are illegal for any use.
